How content on this site is created, checked, corrected, and kept current — stated plainly so you can judge how much to trust it.

Scope

The site covers one subject: estimating gravel, aggregate, and closely related material quantities and costs. Content outside that subject is not published here, and search trends alone never justify a new page — the question is whether it genuinely helps someone estimating materials.

Content creation

• Every page is written for a specific, distinct purpose and tool. Pages that would only restate an existing page in different words are folded into the existing page instead of being created.
• Guidance that varies by region or project (depths, materials, practice) is presented as typical practice with the variance acknowledged — not as universal rules.
• No fabricated content: no invented statistics, studies, experts, credentials, awards, testimonials, or user counts. The site does not claim expert review it hasn't had; content is written and technically checked by the site owner, as described on the about page.

Technical verification

• Formulas — the volume and weight math on every calculator page (including the shape variants: rectangle, circle, triangle) is verified against hand calculations before publishing.
• Density figures — each material's density is cross-checked against multiple published material references and typical supplier specifications, then stated explicitly on the page that uses it. Because real-world densities vary with gradation, moisture, and compaction, pages present the figure used plus a range, and direct readers to confirm with their supplier.
• Unit conversions — inches/feet/yards, centimeters/meters, lb/kg, and short tons are tested, including the edge cases: zero, negative, and extremely large inputs, which the calculators reject or flag rather than silently returning nonsense.
• Internal consistency — the same material shows the same density everywhere on the site; the central configuration file makes drift between pages unlikely and easy to detect.

Updates

Pages are reviewed when something relevant changes or an error is reported. The "last updated" date shown on a page changes only when its content was genuinely reviewed or revised — dates are never refreshed cosmetically to appear current.

Corrections

If you find a wrong formula, an off density figure, or unclear guidance, email ianwelkins@gmail.com. Corrections to math get priority and are fixed at the source — the calculator engine and content together — so the fix applies everywhere the figure appears.

Independence

The site currently carries no advertising and no sponsorships, and no supplier pays for placement or mentions. If advertising is ever introduced, it will never appear inside calculator results or between inputs, and this policy will say so first.
